A Rare Case of Mucocele of the Duplicated Gallbladder
Duplication of the gallbladder is a rare congenital anomaly of the biliary tree. It can have variable presentations depending on the type of duplication. Duplications of the gallbladder are associated with an increased risk of intraoperative and postoperative complications due to its abnormal biliary anatomy. It is always mandatory to have a road map of the biliary tree before proceeding with surgery for gallbladder duplication. Sometimes, a duplicated gallbladder with mucocele creates a diagnostic dilemma with carcinoma gallbladder due to its abnormal wall thickness. In those cases, preoperative positron emission tomography will help us to confirm the diagnosis and take appropriate action. Our case is the first case of mucocele of the duplicated gallbladder with chronic cholecystitis of the adjacent gallbladder.
