Nutrient Index Evaluation in Agroecosystem Coffee in Bandar District, Pacitan Regency, East Java

Abstract Bandar District is a coffee-producing area in Pacitan Regency, but its productivity has remained unchanged. This study aims to determine the soil fertility status in the research area’s coffee agroecosystem and provide management recommendations based on the research results. Soil fertility status at the study site was measured by evaluating the nutrient index in the coffee agroecosystem. This research was conducted by taking soil samples based on a land unit map consisting of 10 land units with three repetitions each so that the total sample was 30 samples. Soil properties that measure soil fertility are organic C, available P, and available K. The results of this study indicate that the nutrient index in the coffee agroecosystem in Bandar District is a high-low-medium index (HLM). The organic C content at the research site is in the high category, available P is in the low category, and exchangeable K is in the medium category. Coffee plants require minimum nutrient levels (N:120 kg ha-1; P:17 kg ha-1; K:149 kg ha-1) to achieve optimal productivity (1.5 ton ha-1). Some land units require adding nutrients to meet coffee plants’ nutrient needs. Recommendations to increase soil nutrients are adding rice straw biochar and various organic fertilizers. This study recommends increasing the nutrients assuming inorganic fertilization using SP-36, urea, and KCl.
