Multidimensional knowledge-based competition in production industries: a case of Moroccan textile industry

Purpose The exploration of multidimensional knowledge (MDK) is a key element for enhancing competitive edge. Many studies demonstrate that innovativeness, technological, environmental and knowledge factors all affect a company’s ability to compete. While numerous academic works have investigated this relationship in several contexts, its analysis in emerging economies has received comparatively less scrutiny, especially in Morocco. To address this research gap, this study aims to examine the impact of MDK-based competition in the textile industry of Moroccan firms. Design/methodology/approach Based on existing literature, the authors developed a conceptual framework that the authors then examined through multiple linear regression analysis, using survey data from 60 Moroccan textile firms. Findings The results show that “cooperation”, “training, learning and reward” and “research and development” have a significant impact on a firm’s competition in Morocco. Among these determinants, the influence of cooperation, both economic and academic, is found to be the most significant. Practical implications The research findings help implement industrial policies and strategies to promote industry-science-technology cooperation in the context of least developing countries by offering insights to researchers, firm managers and policymakers about what motivates Moroccan firms to strengthen their competitive edge. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study proposes the first framework for enhancing the competitive advantage of textile enterprises in the Moroccan context, which will support production firms in better adapting and upgrading to attain optimal growth.
