Disaster Risk Reduction and Management: Building Resilience in India’s Vulnerable Regions
India faces diverse disaster risks due to its geographical and climatic conditions, from intense Heat-waves to seasonal floods and landslides. This paper explores India's comprehensive approach to disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilience, including structural, non-structural, and policy measures. Special emphasis is placed on states like Bihar, Gujarat, and Uttarakhand, each with targeted resilience initiatives to combat specific vulnerabilities, including Bihar’s JalJeevanHariyali (Water, Life, and Greenery) campaign. Highlighting India’s preparedness, the effectiveness of its strategies, and the impact of global cooperation, the paper illustrates India’s multifaceted DRR approach, integrating case studies, data tables, and recent performance indicators.
