Childhood Trauma and Its Long-Term Impact on Adult Mental Health: An In-Depth Review
Childhood trauma, including various forms of abuse, neglect, and exposure to violence, leaves deep psychological imprints that can extend well into adulthood. A growing body of research has illuminated a significant correlation between these adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and the development of mental health disorders later in life. This review aims to provide a thorough analysis of the types of childhood trauma, the array of mental health consequences they produce, and the mediating or moderating factors that influence these outcomes. By exploring these connections, this paper highlights the importance of tailored intervention and prevention strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of childhood trauma and foster better mental health outcomes in adulthood.
