The Impact of Auto Transit Travel Time Towards the Service Quality of Bus Performance: Case Study of West Klang Valley

Developing countries also faced extreme traffic congestion issues specifically in cities as part of the development process. Traffic congestion in urban areas not only affecting road resources and maintenance but accessibility infrastructure and mobility for public transportation. However, the new implementation had some weaknesses and people had raised their concerns and feedback publicly. In West Klang Valley and there were no comprehensive studies conducted previously, there is a need to provide a comprehensive investigation on the current reliability of bus services in West Klang Valley. The Transit Capacity and Quality of Service Manual (TCQSM) was selected as a guideline in this study. Total of four (4) operators with three (3) routes were identified in five different locations. Based on the result shows that the only Petaling Jaya for both weekday and weekend were classified as QOS B, while for, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam and Puchong both were classified as QOS C. Only at Klang the QOS obtained for weekdays and weekends is QOS D. It can be concluded that that Petaling Jaya buses travel time is considerably closer to the travel time of the car. On average for both weekdays and weekends for Petaling Jaya, a QOS B was obtained. The data could be influenced by the traffic condition of that day. The outcome of the study is a vital process that contributes to the body of knowledge on enhancing urban public transportation and part of traffic congestion solution to public transportation authority and bus provider. It is essential for finding a permanent solution for prolonged issues in urban area.
