ULTRASOUND-GUIDED REGIONAL ANESTHESIA

This literature review evaluates recent advances in ultrasound (US)-guided regional anesthesia, emphasizing its clinical adoption, applications, and safety based on the last ten years of literature from PubMed. Despite its established benefits in enhancing procedural accuracy and reducing postoperative opioid use, US-guided anesthesia’s adoption remains uneven due to training and other complex challenges. The review underscores that the efficacy of US-guided anesthesia depends critically on skilled application and effective practitioner training. Simulation training has proven effective in improving clinical success rates and shortening learning curves. Additionally, advancements such as artificial coloring in US have been explored, though traditional US settings still prevail in improving accuracy. Ultimately, the conclusions highlight the need for high-quality training resources and adherence to standardized practices to maximize the potential of US-guided regional anesthesia in improving patient care and safety.
