LITERACY AND WORK PARTICIPATION RATE OF MALDA DISTRICT: CORRELATION AND REGRESSION ANALYSIS

Work participation is crucial for the economic growth and economic development of the study area as well as the country. Literacy plays an important role in increasing the work participation rate of a nation. This paper attempts to study the relationship between literacy and work participation rate of Malda district, based on secondary data obtained from Census of India 2011 and District Census Hand Book (1971-2011) of Malda district. Karl Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient method is applied to determine the results. This paper finds a strong positive correlation between Literacy and work participation rate.
