Nimesulide-induced Histotoxicity in Two Distinct Age Cohorts of Broiler Chicken -19 (Gallus gallus)

One-day-old 80 broiler chickens (Gallus gallus) were purchased from a local market in Dera Ghazi Khan, Pakistan, to evaluate the histotoxicity of nimesulide. On the 28th day, 40 birds were equally divided into groups A, served as control and B, received nimesulide at a dose of 6 mg/kg body weight for live birds. After 80 days, the remaining 40 birds were equally divided into groups C as the control group and group D was administered nimesulide at a dose of 6 mg/kg body weight for live birds. The two additional subgroups 1 for the 10-day trial and subgroup 2 for the 20-day trial for each group of chickens. The dose was administered after the morning ration and water was ad libtim. No histological anomalies were observed in the organs of the control birds, but the treated groups showed distortion of myofibrils, hypertrophy, atrophy, and fibrosis on the heart due to nimesulide, hepatocyte hyperplasia, sinusoid dilation, inflammation, and fibrosis are observed in the liver and distortion of Bowman's capsule, congestion of renal glomerulus, inflammation, bleeding, infiltration, and fibrosis were observed in the tissues of kidney. While comparing the effects on the heart, 28-day-old broiler chickens showed sever histotoxicity on observed organs than 80-day-old chickens but the effects of oral administration of nimesulide on the liver and kidney was more in the 80-day-old chickens as compared to the 28 day-olds, may be due to physiology of organs and interactions of age of chickens and duration of dose of nimesulide.
