Volumetric Analysis of Lung Images by Age and Gender with Horos Project

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate whether age and gender differences have an effect on lung volume. Many epidemics such as the ongoing covid 19 pandemic emphasize the importance of lung health. When data from different populations are compared, age- and sex-related differences are striking. Therefore, knowing the potential differences between individuals will be effective in determining the risk of lung-related diseases and it is aimed to interpret clinical and radiological data together for the diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases. Methods: This retrospective study included 200 individuals aged 20-60 years (100 females, 100 males) who applied to the Radiology Clinic of Adıyaman University Training and Research Hospital between January 1, 2015 and January 1, 2019 and were reported to be healthy as a result of the examinations performed by physicians. 3D volumetric analysis of the images was performed with Horos version 1.1.7. Statistical analyzes were performed with the statistical package program in SPSS version 25.0. The smoking, history of extrapulmonary cancer, family history of lung cancer were not known in the people included in the study. Results: The results show that the right and left lung volume data were different in men and women. Also it is seen that bilateral lung volumes in men are higher than those of women. Conclusion: These data we have obtained show that in other lung diseases in which volumetric evaluation is of great importance, anatomical differences depending on age and gender should be taken into account.
