Interpretation of Constitutions in Republics Being Constituent Entities of the Russian Federation: From the Judicial One to What?

The article is devoted to the study of the activities of subjects of interpretation of constitutions of the republics within the Russian Federation. The legal basis for interpreting constitutions by constitutional courts of the republics and constitutional councils of the republics are considered. Theoretical and practical issues of interpretative activity before and after the constitutional reform of 2020 are analyzed. The article concludes that the disappearance of judicial interpretation of republican constitutions from legal practice causes the emergence of various options for its adequate replacement. One of such options is the interpretative activity of constitutional councils of the republics.
