Antibiotic resistance genes in E. coli strains isolated from Bagua drinking water, under the One Health approach
The objective of this study was to determine antibiotic resistance (AR) genes in Escherichia coli strains isolated from drinking water in Bagua, Peru, under the One Health (OH) approach. The research was carried out considering that the results could be used to improve surveillance and control of AR in drinking water. The study was developed in 2023, in E. coli strains isolated from drinking water, the presence of AR genes was determined by conventional PCR, finding genes that express resistance to erythro-mycin, ampicillin and ciprofloxacin, in addition to finding the gene that ex-presses multiresistence. These findings put public health at risk, since their presence is found in water for human consumption, evidencing the rupture of the interface between humans, environment and animals considered in the OH approach, so it is necessary to work under this approach, massively socializing its benefits.
