Tirzepatide as an Emerging Modality for Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea
The recent randomized controlled trial (RCT) SURMOUNT-OSA evaluated the role of tirzepatide in the management of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).The drug was found to reduce body mass index (BMI), apnea-hypopnea index, and total area under the oxygen dissociation curve during apnea or the apnea-related "hypoxic burden".The trial has brought out a few key findings that have a potentially substantial impact on the management of OSA in obese individuals. This review article is aimed at the new emerging modality of OSA management, i.e., weight reduction as a potential first-line treatment.
