S/X/Ka-band satellite ground station UAV test calibration design
Abstract The use of testing and calibration equipment to calibrate and maintain satellite ground station systems is an important step in the construction and operation of satellite ground stations. Calibration equipment can eliminate system errors generated during the use of ground stations, but traditional fixed calibration towers cannot meet the far-field usage conditions of Ka frequency bands. Therefore, using unmanned aerial vehicle platforms instead of fixed calibration towers can simultaneously meet the usage needs of S/X/Ka tri band ground stations, improve the manoeuvrability and flexibility of calibration equipment usage, and reduce construction costs. Through the study of laws and regulations on the use of drones and the demonstration of important performance indicators of the system, a three-band measurement, control, and data transmission integrated ground station drone testing and calibration system were designed. It adopts a Class II drone platform, equipped with a payload calibration source, antenna, and remote-control module, and controls signal on/off and polarization switching through ground and airborne communication links. Through practical application, it meets the requirements of S/X/Ka band satellite ground station construction projects.
