Bionic butterfly flyer design based on XFlow and solidworks

Abstract The bionic flapping wing flyer has the characteristics of high flight efficiency, strong mobility, and ease of concealment, which has a better application prospect in both military and civil fields. In this paper, we carry out the overall design of a dual rudder type bionic butterfly flyer, drive the flyer with dual servos and lightweight batteries, and realize the remote control of the flyer based on the flight control board, the infrared remote control of the FSi6 remote control and the A8S receiver. In order to ensure the flight reliability of the butterfly flyer, firstly, the theoretical analysis of the lift force of the designed flyer is carried out by using bionic empirical formulas; and the aerodynamic simulation of the flyer is carried out based on XFlow in order to obtain the aerodynamic characteristics of the flyer; and finally, relying on the results of the simulation, a finite element analysis of the flight stress of the wings of the biomimetic butterfly is carried out based on Solidworks to ensure the strength requirement of the wings and to provide a parameter basis for the structural optimization of the bionic butterfly. The bionic butterfly has a wingspan of 29.6 cm, a total length of 15.7 cm, and a weight of 30.2 g. The prototype of the bionic butterfly is tested and flown, and the results show that the bionic butterfly is able to fly stably within a short distance.
