Reduced THD and CMV in a 5-Level Inverter Fed Induction Motor Using FOTID Controller with Meerkat Optimisation Algorithm
A 5-level inverter for Electric Vehicle (EV) applications, with a focus on minimizing the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and Common Mode Voltage (CMV) in induction motor operations, is proposed in this paper. The innovative aspect of this work lies in the implementation of a Proportional Integral Double Derivative (PIDD) cascaded with a fractionalorder tilt-integral-derivative (FOTID) controller for optimal pulse generation with enhanced precision in managing the inverterfed induction motor's performance. Additionally, the stability of the system was further optimized by employing the Meerkat Optimization Algorithm (MOA), which fine-tunes the controller parameters to minimize THD and CMV. The proposed technique was simulated in MATLAB, and the results demonstrated a significant reduction in harmonic distortion and CMV, improving the inverter output quality and extending the induction motor lifespan. This approach presents a robust and efficient control strategy for EV powertrains that enhances performance while minimizing the electrical stress on the system.
