Shaping the Future of Power: Digital Solutions for Grid Efficiency
The integration of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems into power grids introduces challenges such as voltage instability, grid congestion, and power quality degradation, particularly in regions with aging infrastructure. This study focuses on the Aurangabad Zone in State Transmission Utility of Maharashtra, India, to explore solutions for renewable energy integration using advanced technologies and a Digital Twin framework. Digital Twin technology offers capabilities for real-time simulations, predictive analytics, and operational optimization, serving as a scalable tool for grid modernization. Key strategies include the deployment of High-Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductors, hybrid energy storage systems, and adaptive protection mechanisms to enhance grid stability and efficiency. The study evaluates the proposed framework through the development and testing of a PSS®E-based static grid model, which demonstrates acceptable accuracy in replicating real-world power flow data. While the static model provides insights into grid behaviour, future work will focus on real-time implementation and validation. This research highlights the potential of Digital Twins to advance grid resilience and support sustainable energy transitions globally.
