Combined diagnosis and therapy by multimodal nonlinear endospectroscopy guided laser tissue ablation
Developing effective cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies remains a major challenge in medicine. CARS (coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering) microscopy has advanced since the 1980s, allowing label-free imaging of molecular distributions and integrating with nonlinear modalities like SHG and TPEF. These techniques assess tissue composition and morphology, differentiating cancerous from healthy tissue. Translating these into endoscopic systems faces challenges like background signals, probe miniaturization, and light transmission. We present innovative nonlinear endoscopic systems, including a DCDC-based endoscope for background-free imaging and a probe integrated with a femtosecond laser for image-guided tissue removal, enabling a novel intraoperative seek-and-treat approach.
