Compression optical coherence elastography of human prostate
We present results from a clinical pilot study using optical coherence elastography (OCE) to image freshly excised human prostate tissue towards improving cancer detection and nerve-sparing surgery. A total of 19 human prostate specimens were scanned and we demonstrate the capability of OCE to provide high contrast between tissue, stroma, and glands, validated by gold-standard hematoxylin and eosin histology. We believe our results provide a convincing rationale for further research toward developing intraoperative imaging solutions for targeted biopsy and nerve-sparing prostatectomy.
