Label-free mid-infrared photothermal microscopy for imaging of neural cells
Imaging of neural cells is a vital step for understanding fundamental mechanisms associated with physiological processes, differentiation and functionality. Here, it is demonstrated that with mid-infrared photothermal imaging protein aggregations, lipids and nucleic acid vibrational signatures and their thermal diffusion dynamics can be identified with sub-micrometer resolution in a label-free manner in a variety of neural cells, from axon bundles to astrocytes.
