New ultrafast optics and scan engine technology to enable breakthrough multiphoton applications

Multiphoton excitation is used for various nonlinear processes including fluorescence imaging, harmonic generation, and precision polymerization for advanced manufacturing. Conventional microscope optics have evolved to provide high-resolution imaging over a small field-of-view (FOV), with larger FOVs available at lower resolutions. Moreover, scan engines have evolved to provide high-speed scanning over only relatively small FOVs. We have developed a range of optics and technologies to unlock submicron resolution multiphoton imaging over mm length scales (e.g., 25 square mm), with a focus on practical choices of engineering trade-offs without being constrained by conventional standards of microscopes such as parfocal lengths and physical sizes.
