Elliptical optophononic resonators as efficient platforms for the generation and detection of acoustic phonons
Accessing acoustic phonons at high frequencies in nanostructures has a potential impact in several fields, including quantum technologies, data communication, and sensing. In this context, elliptical GaAs/AlAs-based Fabry-Perot optophononic micropillar resonators confining near-infrared photons and sub-terahertz phonons are promising platforms for studying the acoustic phonon dynamics. The ellipticity of micropillars can be used to maximize coherent acoustic phonon generation and detection in pump-probe experiments, while it induces wavelength-dependent polarization rotation allowing background-free Brillouin detection, down to a few tens of GHz.
