Protecting Reinforcement by Coating Concrete with Zinc Metallizing
This article, which serves to accompany a presentation at the AMPP Annual Conference + Expo 2024,1 discusses the preparation and coating of concrete with thermal spray zinc to protect the underlying steel reinforcement from corrosion on two bridges in the U.S. state of Oregon. Descriptions cover the inspection, preparation, and repair of the concrete, and then follow up with explanations on the application of the thermal spray zinc coating. Lastly, the presentation will summarize how the anode provided by the zinc coating protects the underlying steel reinforcement, and explain how it can be maintained and inspected over its expected service life.
