Electrophoretic Deposition of Graphene Oxide on Carbon Steel
In this study, the corrosion resistance of C1018 carbon steel coated with graphene oxide (GO) was studied at 25 °C (77 °F) in a 3.5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution with carbon dioxide (CO2). GO was prepared by the improved Hummers’ method and characterized by Raman spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction. The material was deposited on carbon steel by electrophoresis from GO/water suspensions. The performance of coated and uncoated samples was evaluated by electrochemical experiments. They revealed that the GO can protect the carbon steel against carbonic acid corrosion in a saline environment for oil and gas field applications.
