Novel Crevice Corrosion Assemblies with Laser-Cut Shim
Crevice corrosion assemblies are used to study corrosion in confined spaces, often in the sub-millimeter size range. While there are some standard designs for these assemblies, there are times when novel shapes or sizes are required. This article discusses the creation of crevice corrosion assemblies using laser-cut plastic shims, which allows a wide range of crevice patterns and sizes. This approach provides a relatively rapid method to produce assemblies for evaluating material performance under simulated real-world scenarios. The article also examines the effect of applied torque on the formation and dimensions of crevice gaps.
