Ultrafast modulation in semiconductor metasurfaces for frequency conversion and optical switching

Optical metasurfaces offer novel opportunities to manipulate light and fast tunability on demand. The ultrafast modulation of their resonant optical properties further offers efficient frequency conversion and ultrafast optical switching in ultra-thin materials. In this presentation, I will explore the ultrafast optical effects that occur in semiconductor metasurfaces when free carriers are excited. I will demonstrate how we can achieve broad-spectrum optical switching in silicon metasurfaces with carefully controlled optical modulation. Additionally, I will discuss the potential for efficient frequency conversion in III-V high-Q metasurfaces, capitalizing on band-filling effects. These advancements offer exciting possibilities for practical uses of active meta-optics.
