Label-free refractive index mapping of human sperm cells

This study presents a method for refractive-index mapping of freely swimming human sperm cells using rapid tomographic phase microscopy combined with fluorescence imaging. By capturing tomographic data with shearing interferometry and a fast camera, we offer a detailed label-free visualization of sperm morphology and movement, enhancing sperm selection process in intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

Abstract

This study presents a method for refractive-index mapping of freely swimming human sperm cells using rapid tomographic phase microscopy combined with fluorescence imaging. By capturing tomographic data with shearing interferometry and a fast camera, we offer a detailed label-free visualization of sperm morphology and movement, enhancing sperm selection process in intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
