Stainless deep ultraviolet microscopy for cytology screening
We have developed a low-cost stainless deep ultraviolet microscope for oral cancer and cervical cancer diagnosis. Irregularities in nuclear morphology and changes in nuclear size are hallmarks of malignancy across various cancer types. By utilizing the absorption peak of nuclei at 260 nm, ultraviolet imaging provides superior nuclear contrast and high resolution compared to visible light illumination. This technique obviates the need for staining, resulting in significant time and cost savings. Additionally, artificial intelligence-based methodologies facilitate the quantification of diagnostic markers, thereby minimizing inter-observer variability and enabling automated, objective diagnoses.
