Towards fully integrated frequency comb-based transceivers

The generation of optical frequency combs in integrated photonics opens up a wide range of applications, particularly in high-speed telecommunications. However, advanced photonic circuits, such as transceivers, require the co-integration of various optical functions. In this work, we present, on the same ultra-low-loss silicon nitride (ULL SiN) platform, the generation of frequency combs and the operation of compact integrated arrayed waveguide gratings (AWG). Most notably, we achieved both the generation of a frequency comb and the demultiplexing of the comb lines on the same ULL SiN layer. These results pave the way for fully integrated frequency comb-based transceivers on the ULL SiN platform.
