Adaptive optics using Texas Instruments phase light modulator
Adaptive optics (AO) systems are widely used in astronomy, microscopy, and vision science for correcting optical aberrations. However, for highly dynamic and turbulent applications, such as terrestrial Free Space Optical Communications (FSOC), existing wavefront correction devices have fundamental tradeoffs in speed and resolution which limit their performance. In this paper, we demonstrate the first steps towards a fast and high-resolution AO system using a 0.67-inch Texas Instruments Phase Light Modulator (TI-PLM), capable of kHz speeds across over one million actuatable segments.
