Membrane lasers on silicon integrated with polymer waveguides

Membrane lasers are fabricated on a silicon platform by micro-transfer printing method and integrated with a single-mode polymer waveguide to achieve an efficient fiber coupling. An InP inverse taper waveguide is employed as a spot-size converter for the polymer waveguide. The device exhibits fiber-coupled mW-class output power and 100-Gbit/s pulse-amplitude-modulation 4-level (PAM4) signal modulation.

Abstract

Membrane lasers are fabricated on a silicon platform by micro-transfer printing method and integrated with a single-mode polymer waveguide to achieve an efficient fiber coupling. An InP inverse taper waveguide is employed as a spot-size converter for the polymer waveguide. The device exhibits fiber-coupled mW-class output power and 100-Gbit/s pulse-amplitude-modulation 4-level (PAM4) signal modulation.
