Design of the vertical axis ACT for holographic data storage system

With the development of AI, IoT, and self-media, data generation has surged, outpacing the production speed of data storage media. Holographic data storage emerges as a promising technology to address the need for storing large amounts of cold data. However, it faces challenges in its servo system, which must ensure accurate focusing and tracking. To tackle this, we designed a vertical axis actuator (ACT) for the collinear holographic data storage system (CHDSS). Unlike traditional ACTs in DVD systems, our design maintains the light incidence angle and optical axis while accommodating a larger objective lens for extensive imaging. Using ANSYS simulation and analysis software, we examined the vertical axis ACT across various dimensions, including electromagnetic field, force, motion range, modal analysis, and Bode diagram. And post-fabrication evaluation confirmed that the ACT met CHDSS design requirements.
