A Study on the Roving in the Poetry of Ungok(耘谷) Won Cheon-Seok(元天錫)
This study explored the aspects of movement in the poems of Ungok(耘谷) Won Cheon-Seok(元天錫). In addition, the aspects and meaning of emotional changes shown by the poetic self in relation to roving were examined. Ungok(耘谷) lived an active life busily moving from place to place when he was young. By period, in their 20s, the dynamics of meeting people and performing tasks are revealed while moving to various regions. In their 30s and 40s, roving decreased. After their 50s, only limited movement to nearby areas appears. And after their 60s, there is no poetry related to movement. From their late 50s, when roving decreases, people come to their homes or send gifts often appear in poetry. Even if Ungok(耘谷) does not move directly, roving in the youth is being replaced through visits and gifts from others. Looking at the changes in emotions that appear in relation to the changes in roving, confidence and self-sufficiency appear in young poems. However, after their 50s, when roving decreases, emotions such as laziness, self-abasement, and shame usually appear. In poems written after their 60s, a sense of disconnection with the outside and hopes for fast movement such as ‘the magic method of contracting spac’ and wings are expressed. For Ungok(耘谷), movement was a means of interacting with people, confirming one's abilities, feeling pride or self-sufficiency, and at the same time, a means for a living. Through the roving review that appeared in the poem, it was confirmed that for Ungok(耘谷), roving is a very meaningful element in his life.
