A Theoretical Exploration of REBT and Psychodrama for Social Anxiety Reduction

The purpose of this study is to theoretically explore the eclectic approach of REBT and Psychodrama for reducing social anxiety, and to present new therapeutic possibilities that can complement the limitations of existing CBT. To this end, this study reviewed major literature and previous research on REBT and Psychodrama, analyzed the core concepts and therapeutic charact eristics of each theory, and explored the possibility of an eclectic approach between the two methods. The implications drawn from the theoretical revie w of REBT and Psychodrama are as follows. First, REBT's cognitive restr ucturing and disputation-centered approach is effective in changing irrational beliefs related to social anxiety. Second, Psychodrama's action-based and ex periential approach promotes emotional stabilization and behavioral change. Third, the integration of these two approaches enables a comprehensive app roach to cognitive, emotional, and behavioral aspects. Fourth, complementary effects can be expected particularly in the treatment of social anxiety clients with trauma experiences. This study is significant in that it presents theoret ical grounds for the eclectic approach of REBT and Psychodrama, and sugg ests directions for developing an eclectic counseling model for reducing soci al anxiety. Through this, it aimed to establish a foundation for future empiri cal research and clinical application.
