Study on the dispersion characteristics of multilayer composite materials based on the finite element method
Abstract Laminated composite materials are widely used in civilian fields and have great potential in solid rocket motor material research. To prevent accidents that could result in property loss, it is essential to inspect material damage. Due to its advantages such as long propagation distance and low attenuation, ultrasonic Lamb waves have been widely applied in the inspection of bonding quality in plate-like structures. In recent years, using Lamb waves for damage localization and imaging in multilayer composites has become a research hotspot. However, during propagation, Lamb waves exhibit dispersion and possess multimodal characteristics, which can lead to mode overlap. Additionally, the anisotropic nature of composite materials complicates Lamb wave propagation, making it difficult to achieve accurate damage localization and imaging results. This project focuses on carbon fiber multilayer composites, studying the dispersion characteristics of ultrasonic Lamb waves in the material and conducting finite element simulation analysis.
