“Del sol el más ilustre paralelo”: notas sobre sinofilia en un soneto de Lope de Vega

Abstract This article studies the sonnet that Lope de Vega dedicates to his friend, the historian and canon Francisco de Herrera Maldonado, in the Epítome historial del reino de la China (1620). Lope brings together images with an aura of wonder that seventeenth-century Europe situates in the Indies of the East, and he finds his own place in the description of China as the promise of a universal Catholicism under the rule of the Habsburg, locating his work within the European tendencies of early Sinophilia.
