An Ayurvedic Management on Pancreatitis - A Case Study
Background- The patient presented with severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Laboratory investigations before treatment showed elevated serum amylase (450 U/L) and lipase (900 U/L) levels. Ultrasound findings indicated an enlarged pancreas (18 cm), increased echogenicity, peri-pancreatic fluid collection. She had no prior history of pancreatitis, and a high-fat diet were identified as potential contributing factors. This case study focuses on a 38-year-old female patient diagnosed with pancreatitis, treated at Parul Ayurveda Hospital, Limda, Vadodara. The study explores the combined use of Ayurvedic treatments, specifically Amlaki Churna and Guduchi Satva, alongside supportive care, to manage her condition effectively. Treatment and Follow-Up- The treatment included both Ayurvedic medications and supportive allopathic care. Amlaki Churna and Guduchi Satva were prescribed for their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and hepatoprotective properties. Follow-up assessments over four weeks monitored drug dosages and vital signs. Serum amylase levels reduced to 120 U/L, and serum lipase decreased to 180 U/L. Ultrasound findings after treatment showed normalized pancreatic size (15 cm), resolution of fluid collections, and the absence of gallstones. Discussion- The treatment demonstrated the effectiveness of combining Ayurvedic therapies with modern medical practices in managing pancreatitis. The improvements in the patient’s clinical symptoms, laboratory findings, and imaging results indicate the therapeutic potential of Amlaki Churna and Guduchi Satva in treating inflammation, enhancing digestion, and supporting liver function. Conclusion-The integrated treatment approach using Ayurvedic remedies effectively managed the patient’s pancreatitis, with substantial improvements in both clinical and diagnostic parameters. This case supports the potential of combining traditional and modern medicine for holistic care in complex conditions like pancreatitis.
