Statehood as a Theoretical and Legal Problem: The Synthesis of Approaches. Part 2
The conclusions are substantiated that the category “statehood” integrates its two main qualities of statehood — the status of a state, through which its membership in the community of states is determined, and its consistency as an expression of internal political and social capabilities, its ability to realize the essential aspects of its existence. A characteristic feature of the current stage of development of the system of international relations is the phenomenon of “problematic statehood,” reflecting the crisis of the model of a sovereign national state. A means of resolving the crisis experienced by the classical model of statehood is also the emergence of the concept of network statehood, within which the national state is involved in a network structure formed by the interweaving of differential connections with other political entities and private structures. It is noted that the antithesis “strong state” — “weak state” allows one to study issues of the effectiveness of the performance of state functions, including “state dysfunctions”.
