PLANTAS MEDICINAIS NO TRATAMENTO DE TRANSTORNOS MENTAIS: UMA ABORDAGEM INTERDISCIPLINAR ENTRE CIÊNCIA E A PSICOLOGIA EM PROL DA SAÚDE MENTAL
The use of medicinal plants as an alternative treatment for mental disorders has gained prominence, especially as a natural and effective option compared to conventional treatments. Several studies indicate that plants such as Lavandula angustifolia (lavender), Passiflora incarnata (passionflower), and Valeriana officinalis (valerian) possess therapeutic properties, including anxiolytic and antidepressant effects, proving effective in alleviating symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. The combination of these plants with psychotherapy has shown positive results, providing a more holistic and personalized approach to patient care. However, challenges such as the lack of standardization in plant extracts and variability in active compounds still hinder robust scientific validation of these benefits. Additionally, patient adherence to natural therapies is driven by the search for less invasive treatments, but professional supervision is essential to ensure their safety and effectiveness. The interdisciplinary approach involving pharmacology, psychology, and medicine is crucial for integrating these therapeutic practices, optimizing outcomes, and providing safer treatments. Continued scientific research and professional training on the benefits and risks of medicinal plants are essential to validate and improve these treatments. In summary, while promising, treatments with medicinal plants require further studies to ensure their effectiveness and safety in the context of mental health, with an integrated approach being key to the success of these therapies.
