Base‐Promoted Decarboxylative Aza‐Michael Strategy: Accessing Succinimide Fused Spiro Indolin‐3‐ones with Potent Antibacterial Activity

Abstract Herein we report a protocol for preparation of C2‐spiro succinimide indolin‐3‐ones by reaction of N ‐alkyl isatoic anhydride with N ‐alkyl maleimide under base catalysis. The reaction pathway undergoes decarboxylative aza‐Michael addition and followed by cyclization under mild reaction conditions. These compounds exhibit highly potent and promising antibacterial activity against Gram‐negative bacteria, particularly isatoic anhydride compounds with electron withdrawing substituents exhibited excellent antibacterial activity specifically against Gram‐negative bacteria. The present approach offers broad spectrum of substrate scope and well tolerance with good‐to‐excellent yields.
