Optimization of Transmitter Azimuths in a 4th Generation Telecommunications Network: Application of Genetic Algorithm and Atoll Simulation
Optimizing the parameters of telecommunications networks, such as the azimuths of transmitters, is essential to improving coverage and service quality. Adjusting the azimuths is sometimes a complex task, requiring the expertise of the supervisor who must simulate multiple scenarios. In this work, we present a method based on artificial intelligence; specifically, we developed a genetic algorithm to determine the best azimuths for 4G transmitters. This method aims to maximize network coverage by adjusting the transmitters' azimuths. The method was evaluated in a test region consisting of four 4G sites, each site having three transmitters with azimuths spaced 120° apart. The twelve azimuths calculated by our method provided a better solution, with a 4 % improvement compared to the settings used by the telecom operator.
