Recovery Device for a Hand to be Used by Patients with Mild Stroke Complications
A stroke is a life-threatening condition that occurs when there is a reduction or obstruction in the blood supply to the brain, resulting in malfunctioning of some body parts. One of the primary objectives of stroke rehabilitation is the reduction of motor impairment, which is typically accomplished through physical exercises while the patient is taking prescribed medication. Robotic exoskeletons are a new technology that augments and magnifies human strength and can be used to replace permanent or temporary body parts that are worn out (legs, hands, etc.). The primary objective of this study is to develop an exoskeleton for the functional hand recovery of a patient with a mild stroke. Using EMG signals, the system predicts the precise movements intended by the patient. Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) was chosen because of its superior mechanical properties.
