Detuned Design Methodology of Anti-Misalignment Capacitive Power Transfer Converter

Stable power transmission is a critical concern in capacitive power transfer (CPT) systems due to the inevitable misalignment between couplers leading to power fluctuations. Existing anti-misalignment techniques face challenges of complicated design processes, reliance on multiple compensation components, and the necessity for complex control systems. To ensure stable power transmission under misalignment conditions in a relatively simple manner, this article proposes a detuned design approach for series-compensated CPT systems to limit output power variations caused by misalignment. The proposed method employs a simple compensation scheme and achieves effective anti-misalignment capability via parameter design. By avoiding the need for active control or complex compensation, it offers a lightweight and highly reliable solution. In addition, the design process considers aspects such as soft switching conditions and voltage stress for better performance. An experimental platform was built to validate the proposed detuned design methodology, with anti-misalignment output power, zero-voltage soft-switching, and suppressed voltage stress.
