Study on the Effect of Fluid Conductivity on the Protection Effect of Local Scour on Cylindrical Bridge Abutments

Abstract Localized scour of bridge abutments is one of the important causes of bridge water damage, which seriously threatens the normal operation of bridges, so the study of its protective measures is particularly important. In order to study the effect of the conductive fluid on the protection effect of local scour of bridge abutments, a three‐dimensional numerical model is established based on Flow‐3D software, and the experimental data of Ismael and Adnan A are used to verify the reliability of the model. The verified model is then used to study the effect of the change in the width of the bottom edge of the conductive fluid on the morphology of the local scour of the cylindrical abutment and the protection effect. The results show that the fluid conductor can effectively reduce the depth of localized scour pits around the cylindrical abutment, and the protective effect is better for the front of the abutment than for the two sides of the abutment. The protection effect is best when the width of the bottom edge is D, and the protection efficiency is 58.33%.
