1D large strain nonlinear consolidation analysis of soft soil under cyclic loading

Abstract A 1D large strain consolidation model of soft soil under cyclic load incorporating Swartzendurber's flow was established by coupling a double logarithmic permeability compression model. The numerical solution of the consolidation equation was derived using the finite difference method. The reliability of the finite difference solution is then confirmed by comparing it with the analytical solution. Then, the parameters of the 1D consolidation model of soft soil under sine wave load are analyzed. The results show that the consolidation proceeding under cyclic loading shows obvious periodicity. As the compression index and permeability model parameters increase, the dissipation of excess pore‐water pressure (EPP) slows down, and the average consolidation degree (ADC) decreases. Conversely, a larger I c results in a faster rate of soil settlement development, while a larger α has the opposite effect. Additionally, with the increase of the cyclic load period, the settlement rate of the soil layer will be faster.
