The Forces on the Cable Tower and Beam During Synchronous Construction of Cable‐Stayed Bridge Towers and Beams

Abstract To understand the effect of using the synchronous construction method of tower and beam on the cable tower and beam of a cable‐stayed bridge, a double tower and double cable plane cable‐stayed bridge with a span of (131+300+131) m was taken as an example. A finite element model was established using MIDAS/Civil software to simulate the synchronous construction process of the tower and beam before and after the closure of the cable tower. The force and deformation of the cable tower and beam were calculated and analyzed. The research results show that compared to before the closure of the cable tower, the force and deformation of the cable tower and crossbeam after the closure have increased, but both meet the design requirements. The force of temporary transverse braces also meets the bearing capacity requirements. Therefore, the synchronous construction scheme of the tower and beam can be adopted for large‐span cable‐stayed bridges to save time and ensure the main beams can be closed before the high typhoon season.
