Bending Test Study of Model Materials for Concrete Dams

Abstract China has constructed several high concrete dams in the strong seismic zone in the southwest and northwest part of the country. The seismic performance of the dams can be effectively improved by adopting appropriate seismic measures. A concrete gravity dam was investigated for seismic reinforcement measures by means of dynamic modeling tests, and the fiber concrete scheme was one of the alternatives. In order to provide a basis for the determination of fiber concrete scheme, the change of flexural performance of fiber concrete model material with fiber dosage was tested. The hemp fiber material utilized in this experiment demonstrated the capacity to enhance the structural integrity of the concrete framework. A total of one control group (0%) and five experimental groups (dosage of 0.17%, 0.33%, 0.67%, 1.00%, 1.33%) of hemp fiber concrete specimens were designed for the test. The three‐point bending test was employed to assess the flexural strength and deformation properties of the specimens. The observation of the test phenomenon allows for the analysis of the test results. It can be seen that different hemp fiber mass admixtures have different effects on the flexural strength. The mass admixture of 1.00% has the largest flexural strength, and the effect of limiting cracking is the best. The value of the peak load displacement and the fiber admixture appear to be approximately positively correlated. The fiber admixture of 1.00% was finally determined as the material selection scheme of fiber concrete for the dynamic model test.
