Seismic Performance Analysis of the Valve Hall‐Valve Tower‐Bushing System of a ±800kV Converter Station

Abstract The valve hall and the internal electrical equipment are key components to ensure the proper conversion and transmission of power. Modal analysis was conducted on the valve hall frame system, valve hall‐valve tower system, valve hall‐bushing system, and valve hall‐valve tower‐bushing system by ABAQUS. Nonlinear time‐history analysis was performed on both the valve hall frame system and the valve hall‐valve tower‐bushing system. The results reveal that valve towers and bushings alters the structure's mode shapes and frequencies. Compared to the valve hall frame, a significant reduction in frequency observed in valve hall‐valve tower system and valve hall‐valve tower‐bushing system. After seismic input, large displacements occur at the valve tower base, and the bottom displacement varies significantly due to the different waveforms, even though the peak acceleration of each seismic wave is identical. The tower and bushing significantly reduces the displacement and acceleration response at the top of the valve hall columns. The maximum stress occurs at the connection between the bushing and the valve hall.
