Analysis of statistical correlation of maritime accidents and navigation safety activities in the Adriatic Sea
Due to increased maritime traffic in the Adriatic Sea, mainly during the touristic season, the frequency of maritime accidents is significantly higher than the world average by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The number of maritime accidents involving merchant ships in the Adriatic Sea is relatively small. Hence, the object of research in this paper is maritime accidents and navigation safety supervision activities covering the period 2017. - 2022. The research results expose the correlation between navigation safety supervision activities with the number of maritime accidents. Proposed data were analyzed using R-studio software and research results demonstrate that prevention and enhancing awareness significantly influence the reduction in the number of accidents compared to repressive measures of supervision and inspection.
