Determination of criteria for strengthening the multimodal connectivity of airports
Airport-oriented development is a relatively new globalised urban and regional concept. Therefore, in the phase of planning the construction and reconstruction of airports, a complete analysis of the land access system is required in order to ensure smooth development and expansion. Connecting the basic transport infrastructure network with trans-European networks and corridors is one of the basic goals and an important prerequisite for balanced transport development. The analysis of the previous literature found that there are shortcomings in research in the segment of optimisation of airport infrastructural capacities, which, apart from road transport, have no direct connection with other modes of transport and tools that would guide airport management in making strategic decisions related to sustainable development and strengthening of multimodal connectivity. The paper investigates qualitative and quantitative criteria and determines their characteristics and values. The criteria can be divided into the following four basic groups: (1) reliability, (2) travel time, (3) traffic and (4) infrastructure. After determining the criteria for each group, it is possible to create a correlation analysis of the criteria with each other. Determination is the first essential step in building a functional model for improving existing or new infrastructure to properly dimension multimodal airport access.
